Requires extensive socialization, patience to train, tail and ears may be cropped or docked, not easily trained for high levels of obedience, highly intelligent in problem solving, requires well fenced yards and will bark with the sound of alarms thus not good for city life. does not require plenty of food

of interest: one of the earliest species of dog. there are variations of the breed based on region they are from. those from the former Turkmen SSR in Tadzhikistan in the mountain regions of the Pamirs and of Uzbekistan and South Kazakhstan are more long-haired,and frequently the rough and damp type. those of more northern regions are smaller. North of South Kazakhstan cross-breeding with Borzoi has resulted in a new form called "Genista', which are smaller and have a narrower head and sharp snout, many of which are timid, malicious and cowardly. some have been cross-bred with the Great Dane and are considered 'wolfhounds'
